From raw materials to finished product: A detailed look at Adukia Industries’ TMT bar manufacturing process

In the world of construction, the strength, durability, and safety of a building heavily depend on the materials used in construction. One of the materials is TMT bars, or Thermo Mechanically Treated bars have revolutionized the construction industry, becoming a fundamental part of modern buildings and construction. These bars form the base of buildings and are known for their incredible durability and strength making them fit to be the foundation of strong structures. However, you must note that the effectiveness of TMT bars is the result of the quality control and assurance that they undergo during the manufacturing process.

Curious to know how are they made? Well, in this blog learn from raw materials to the finished product of Adukia Industries TMT bar manufacturing.

Processing of raw material from iron ore to steel

The initial stage of TMT bar manufacturing begins with steel production. Steel is manufactured from ferrous ore. The process commences with the mixing of iron ore with carbon and dolomite, as per the specific requirements for TMT bars. This process occurs in a blast furnace, where oxygen is supplied. The ore undergoes several stages, including centring (which involves crushing the ore into fine particles), sintering (the addition of additives such as carbon and coke bake), and finally, conversion to purified iron ore. At this point, the purified iron is obtained, and the flux is separated from the Fe slag.

In the subsequent step, the purified iron is treated with coke, limestone, and bentonite, which aids in reducing the iron content in the ore, resulting in the formation of pig iron. This pig iron typically contains around 3-4% carbon, which is then reduced through self-tempering at a controlled temperature to make it suitable for construction purposes.

i) Steelmaking

In Steelmaking Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is used. In this, the molten iron is added for desulphuring pretreatment. After the desulphuring of the iron, it is added to the casting machine from where it flows to the water-cooled moulds. When solidification happens, the molten iron takes the form of steel, this is also known as billet steel, as it is freshly made steel.

ii) From billet shearing to TMT bar manufacturing

At Adukia Industries, we kickstart our TMT bar production with top-grade billet steel. Our commitment to quality is unwavering, and we rely on cutting-edge German Thermex Technology to refine the process. This technology allows us to apply temperature-controlled electrical energy to the billet, minimizing waste.

The billet is then heated to a temperature range of 1160-1250 degrees Celsius. Within the heated billet, a combination of electricity, furnace oil, and cooled water is introduced to solidify the molten billet and start the rolling of the TMT bars. Subsequently, the TMT bars are allowed to cool naturally, and once cooled, each batch is cut according to the final length requirements.

To enhance the yield strength and flexibility of the TMT bars, steel bars are twisted to incorporate ribs. These TMT bars are bundled in batches and undergo a thorough quality control process before they are released into the market.

Quality control checklist for TMT bars for strong buildings

i) Chemical Composition

Achieving the perfect chemical composition is key to good quality of TMT bars. Therefore, it is important to attain the right blend of elements to ensure perfect weldability, resistance power, and strength. In this case, TMT distributors along with manufacturers must understand that even the slightest differences in the measure of any of the qualities can impact the integrity of the bars negatively.

ii) Mechanical properties

When it comes to mechanical properties, it is important to talk about the importance of strength and ductility of TMT bars. These aspects are essential for withstanding dynamic loads and seismic stresses, making them essential for strong buildings. TMT distributors play an important role in upholding these mechanical standards, ensuring that the bars meet or surpass industry Standards.

From manufacturing unit to construction site: TMT bar distributorship

TMT bars play a major role in shaping the construction industry. These bars form the base of buildings and are known for their incredible durability and strength making them fit to be the foundation of strong structures. However, you must note that the effectiveness of TMT bars is the result of the quality control and assurance that they undergo during the TMT bar distributorship process.

Implementation of quality control measures by TMT bar distributors

i) Supplier evaluation

The foundation of quality control is the selection of trustworthy suppliers. So, it is important to understand the role of distributors using supplier evaluation techniques to ensure that TMT bar raw materials satisfy the appropriate criteria. A strong supplier network contributes to the overall quality of TMT bars provided.

ii) In-house testing

Analysing the benefits of in-house testing and emphasizing how distributors can proactively ensure quality is essential. In-house testing enables effective and quick detection of violations regarding quality standards, therefore limiting the circulation of low-grade TMT bars in the market.

iii) Certifications

TMT bar distributorship agents must comply with industry certifications and regulations. So, it becomes important to emphasize the importance of adhering to set benchmarks, confirming that all factors satisfy the necessary quality and safety criteria. Moreover, distributors contribute to the overall reliability of TMT bars in the building ecosystem by adhering to these requirements.

Making construction stronger with Adukia Industries TMT bar

The demand for TMT bars is expected to grow with the growth of infrastructure in India. Here, choosing quality material ensures the safety, and durability of the construction. Adukia Industries in every process of manufacturing makes sure they are meeting Indian and International manufacturing standards set by certified institutes such as BIS, and ISO. To meet the quality standard we not only have certification from government institutions, we have a range of accreditation from third-party institutions such as Dept. Of Construction Engineering, Jadavpur University, National Institute Of Technology, Agartala, Mangalam Testing Bureau, Industrial Development & Testing Laboratory (Idtl), and National Test House. Make your construction stronger from the core with our TMT bars.
