The initial stage of TMT bar manufacturing begins with steel production. Steel is manufactured from ferrous ore. The process commences with the mixing of iron ore with carbon and dolomite, as per the specific requirements for TMT bars. This process occurs in a blast furnace, where oxygen is supplied. The ore undergoes several stages, including centring (which involves crushing the ore into fine particles), sintering (the addition of additives such as carbon and coke bake), and finally, conversion to purified iron ore. At this point, the purified iron is obtained, and the flux is separated from the Fe slag.
In the subsequent step, the purified iron is treated with coke, limestone, and bentonite, which aids in reducing the iron content in the ore, resulting in the formation of pig iron. This pig iron typically contains around 3-4% carbon, which is then reduced through self-tempering at a controlled temperature to make it suitable for construction purposes.
In Steelmaking Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is used. In this, the molten iron is added for desulphuring pretreatment. After the desulphuring of the iron, it is added to the casting machine from where it flows to the water-cooled moulds. When solidification happens, the molten iron takes the form of steel, this is also known as billet steel, as it is freshly made steel.

Subsequently, the TMT bars are allowed to cool naturally, and once cooled, each batch is cut according to the final length requirements.
