Exploring quality control methods for TMT bars

TMT bars are an integral part of the construction, from supporting the reinforced concrete to giving structure to a building. It is one of the first purchases made before starting a project, and the quality of the bar impacts the durability of the overall construction.

As quality control is one of the critical factors that builders and architects keep in mind while purchasing TMT bars, it is the TMT bar manufacturers who maintains quality standards during production. In this blog, we will explore the importance of quality control of TMT bars and the types of quality control methods.

Quality control methods of TMT bars

Chemical composition analysis

The manufacturing of TMT bars contains a mix of various chemicals and minerals. In that carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus have the highest percentage. The percentage of each helps in the manufacturing of different grades of TMT bars. The chemical composition of steel TMT bars determines the strength and durability of the bars. Quality control of the bar involves testing the steel bar’s chemical composition to ensure it meets industry standards. This is done through various methods like spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray, and fluorescence testing.

Mechanical properties testing

Mechanical properties like yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation properties are critical parameters to check product quality. As a TMT bar manufacturer, we conduct yield stress testing and tensile strength testing to check the quality of the TMT bars.

Types of Mechanical Properties Testing:

Yield stress testing: Yield stress testing is conducted to check the elasticity of the TMT bars. When the load is added to the steel bars, it won’t reach the yield point; rather, it will return to its original shape when the weight is removed.

Tensile strength testing: Stress is applied to the bars by tensile force, to crack them, for determining the rigidity of the TMT bars and the occasion of failure. The test is performed on mild steel to high tensile steel, for determining rate prolongation, Young’s modulus, and quality. The estimation taken during the test is taken when it is under a tensile load.

Ultrasonic testing: Ultrasonic nondestructive testing (UDT) is a well-established technique in which high-frequency sound waves are provided to the TMT bar to check for leaks, cracks, and hidden flaws in the metal.

In the UDT testing method, it uses frequencies commonly in the range of 2MHz to 10MHz. In the test piece, the sound will travel through a medium like steel at a specified speed or velocity in a predictable direction, and when it encounters a boundary, the ultrasound wave will reflect or transmit. This helps in the easy identification of porosities, inclusions, cracks, or discontinuities that can impact customer satisfaction.

Visual inspection

Just like chemical inspection and physical inspection, it is important to have a visual inspection for qualifying the industry standards. It is a simple and effective method for quality control. In this, the TMT bar manufacturers examine the surface of TMT steel bars for any defects or deformities. This method is mostly used in conjunction with other methods to ensure the quality of TMT bars.

Corrosion test

In corrosion testing, the testing steel bar is destroyed with chemical, electrochemical, and metallurgical interactions that mimic the actual environment in which the TMT bar will be exposed. The reports from the test determine its ability to resist corrosion when exposed to environmental conditions.

How do Adukia Industries ensure quality through tests?

As a leading TMT bars manufacturers, Adukia Industries conducts all the tests mentioned here and apart from these tests, Adukia Industries also conducts regular inspections of their production facilities to ensure that the manufacturing process adheres to the quality control standards. This includes monitoring the temperature and timing during the manufacturing process, as well as the handling and storage of the finished products.

In conclusion, quality control is a crucial aspect of TMT bar manufacturing, and it is essential for ensuring that the finished products are of high quality, safe, and durable. At Adukia Industries, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality control and ensuring that our TMT bars meet the necessary specifications. We believe that by using the latest technology and adhering to strict quality control standards, we can produce TMT bars that are strong, flexible, and durable enough to meet the demands of modern construction projects.
